Flutterby Blends
We
all know how much our little friends learn when they are engaged in fun and
meaningful activities. Here are four hands-on activities to add to your
collection of meaningful and fun activities.
“Flutterby
Blends” has a sorting activity, puzzle cards, clip cards and cut/glue pages to
encourage sound discrimination and blend recognition for L blends.

I
found some adorable butterfly boxes at the local dollar store that I knew would
be perfect to use for sorting picture cards. I cut out the blend labels that are included in the
resource and attached them to the boxes.
I
printed the pages on cardstock and laminated them. I cut apart all of the cards and stored them in the
containers I found at the Dollar Tree. I feel it is important to introduce the
skills you want the students to practice in a small group setting to check for
understanding. After you feel the students are ready you can add these
activities to your independent centers/stations.

End of the Year FREEBIE
School's
almost over for the Summer and you've invested so much time, love
and energy
teaching your students. What better way
to let them know how much you have enjoyed having them in your class this year
by giving them a sweet card. Maybe even attach a piece of candy, sticker,
eraser or pencil to it along with a special note on the back.
There

and jot a quick note on the back.

Pocket Chart Poems
Poetry is a wonderful way to incorporate
academic language, rhythm, and rhyming skills into your daily routine.
Introducing a new poem each week is an easy way to extend the learning of so many skills. In my classroom the poem of the week goes along with our theme. I use the sentence strips in a pocket chart to introduce the poem.
The next day I will pull up the
FULL size book on the interactive board and track the words with a soft
pointer. The students use their own HALF page copy to follow along. The
students highlight sight words that they know (or the ones we are working on), partner read and then color in
the pictures so that it is ready to take home and read to the parents.
The pocket chart and pictures can be used
as a literacy center. The pocket chart is used to encourage students to use a
pointer and track as they recite the poem each day. The printable pictures can
be attached to tongue depressors then use in retelling the story.
This
simple poem also has an added subtraction element to it.
